Despicable Me 2 is an upcoming 2013 American 3D computer animated comedy film and the sequel to the 2010 animated film Despicable Me. Produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures, it will be directed again by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, and written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove and Kristen Wiig will reprise their roles. New cast members include Al Pacino as Gru’s nemesis, and Steve Coogan in a yet unnamed role. The film is scheduled to be released on July 3, 2013.

Chris Meledandri said in July 2010 that a sequel is in the works. It is tentatively scheduled for release on July 3, 2013. Miranda Cosgrove stated on her official Facebook and Twitter page on October 14, 2011 that she had recorded her first lines, while Meledandri confirmed in February 2012 that they started animating the film.
In February 2012, it was reported that Al Pacino has joined the cast to voice the villain, Gru’s nemesis. In April 2012, it was confirmed that Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove and Kristen Wiig are returning to reprise their roles. Steve Coogan has also joined the cast in a yet unnamed role.
On March 1, 2012, an early teaser trailer was released on iTunes Movie Trailers and featured the minions singing a spoof of “Barbara Ann” by The Beach Boys. The trailer was also attached to The Lorax, also by Illumination Entertainment, which went into theaters on March 2, 2012.
A second trailer was released on October 31, 2012, featuring Minions investigating strange noises.
A spin-off feature film, featuring The Minions as the main characters, is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2014. Written by Brian Lynch, it will be directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, and produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healey. The film will focus on The Minions, but it will also introduce new characters and reprise others from Despicable Me.
